Matt Johnson
Career Highlights
Matt Johnson is considered one of the best three-sport athletes to ever play at Kokomo High School, exceling in football, basketball and baseball.
He led the football team in total offense for three years and departed as the career passing leader with 3,498 yards. Johnson also led the Kats to a North Central Conference title in 1987. As of 2015, he was still the career leader with 39 passing touchdowns.
Johnson also helped lead the Kats basketball team to an IHSAA state runners-up finish in 1989 as the starting guard. In his final two seasons playing guard, the Kokomo Wildkats finished with records of 24-3 and 25-6.
If that was not enough, he led the Kokomo baseball team to an IHSAA state runners-up finish in 1988 and graduated with a career batting average of .344. In three seasons, Kokomo was 62-30 overall.
Johnson was a walk-on at Notre Dame and served as the back-up quarterback for two seasons and was the primary kick holder as a senior. He played in three major bowl games and was named “Best Practice Player” by Hall of Fame coach Lou Holtz.
After college, he was also a member of the gold medal winning team handball squad at the 1995 U.S. Olympic Festival. Johnson also has a PhD in sports psychology.
