Career Highlights

Brett Colby is one of the most successful football coaches in the history of Howard County. A 1981 Western High School graduate, he left his mark on three high school programs before retiring following the 2017 Class 5A state championship game.
Colby began his journey in 1990, coaching at South Newton for six seasons, departing with a 36-23 record and one sectional title. In 1996, he took over the reins at Frankfort High School, where he stayed for 11 seasons. During his time leading the Hot Dogs, he won three sectional titles and amassed a record of 79-44.
He arrived at Kokomo High School in 2007 with the Wildkats in the midst of six consecutive losing seasons. That string ended in Colby’s first campaign as Kokomo won eight of nine regular season contests and the first of his seven North Central Conference titles. By the time he retired in 2017, Colby departed with a record of 90-31 at Kokomo and 205-98 overall. His 90 wins were second most in school history and his .744 winning percentage tops the Kats list. He won three sectional championships, two regional titles, one semi-state trophy, and at one point had a remarkable 39-game NCC winning streak. In 2017, the four-time NCC Coach of the Year led the Wildkats to its only IHSAA state title game.
Colby was elected to the Indiana Football Hall of Fame in 2020.
