Career Highlights

Making calls on the state’s biggest high school stages, James Robinson has officiated eight state championship games in three sports over a span of more than 30 years. Calling Kokomo home since the 1970s, Robinson worked high school games from 1980-2013, including six IHSAA baseball state finals, the 1993 football state final, and the 2001 3A Boys State Championship Basketball game. On the college circuit, he worked games in various sports from 1994-2004. Since 2005, he has worked as an NCAA football replay official, including nine bowl games and the 2014 National Championship game.
Named to the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame Class of 2021, Robinson called 33 baseball sectionals, 25 regionals and 14 semi-states. He worked six Indiana North-South
All-Star series and was voted the IHSBCA Umpire of the Year five times. In 2002, he was named the IHSAA/NFOA Baseball Official of the Year and the National Federation Distinguished Official of the Year. He also coached at the Babe Ruth level and for the Kokomo Post 6 American Legion team for 10 years. Robinson officiated 29 basketball sectionals, 26 regionals, four semi-states, and two Indiana-Kentucky All-Star games. He was named a 2023 Men’s Center Circle Officials Award winner by the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. James resides in Kokomo and has a daughter, Chiquita, grandson Kameron, and great-grandson Kendryn.
