Rickey Myles
Career Highlights
Rickey Myles was a three-sport athlete, starring on the Kokomo High School hardwood before finding his greatest success on the diamond. The lefty pitched six seasons in the minor leagues and was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 14th round of the 1979 MLB Draft after a 7-1 spring at Jackson Community College. In AA, Myles spent time with New York’s Jackson Mets squad in the Texas League and Cleveland’s Buffalo Bisons in the Eastern League. Over 86 games in the minors, Myles compiled a 20-18 record with a 4.24 ERA, pitching nine complete games and five shutouts. Myles played just one season of baseball at Kokomo, leading the Kats in hitting as a senior (.333) and going 2-4 with a 2.88 ERA. In two seasons with the Kats basketball squad, Myles averaged 13.4 points per game and helped the
team win two sectional titles. As a senior, he led Howard County and ranked No. 2 in the NCC in scoring (22.1 ppg), shooting 58 percent. He earned recognition as an Associated Press third-team all-state pick, United Press International (UPI) second-team all-state selection, and was named to the all-NCC team. Myles played one year of basketball at Columbus College in Georgia, averaging 8.1 ppg. He transferred to Jackson Community College the following year. After an injury sidelined his basketball season, he joined the baseball team, delivering an impressive season that caught the attention of the Reds. Rickey is retired from the Kokomo Fire Department and lives in Kokomo. He has two adult children, Amy and Rickey Myles.
