Career Highlights

Rumbling his way into the gridiron record books and playing for a state title on the basketball court, Herman Fowler was a two-sport standout at Kokomo High School who went on to letter three seasons with the Indiana University football team.

The 1998 KHS grad rushed for a then-school record 274 yards in a football game against Anderson as a senior, still fourth best in Wildkat history. He was team captain and an All-North Central Conference pick as a senior. As a junior, Fowler helped the Kats to their first undefeated regular season since 1964. Kokomo went 29-12 in Fowler’s four years on the squad.

In basketball, Fowler led the Kats in scoring as a junior (14.3 points) and senior (17.3 points). The Kats won four sectionals, two regionals and a semi-state in Fowler’s four years, compiling an 85-18 record over that span. As a junior, Fowler and the Kats were runner up to Bloomington North in the 1997 IHSAA state championship.

The Kats won the North Central Conference Fowler’s sophomore year. He was the Most Improved Player award winner as a junior, and was MVP of the squad as a senior.

At IU, Fowler was a walk-on to the football team in 1998. He earned a scholarship for the 1999 season and started two games at linebacker that year. He lettered for the Hoosiers in 1999, 2001 and 2002.

Fowler has been an assistant coach at KHS.
