Career Highlights

A three-sport Haworth High School standout in basketball, baseball and football, Brian Cossell went on to find collegiate success on the diamond and hardwood at North Dakota State University.

Cossell played four years of basketball and baseball and two years of football at Haworth. As a senior in 1982, Cossell averaged 17 points, shot 91 percent from the free throw line, and 53 percent from the field for the Huskies’ basketball squad, earning All-State honorable mention, an All-Olympic Conference 1st team selection, and All-Sectional team honors. He was a Joe Platt award winner in 1981 and 1982. He scored 584 career points (9.7 points per game).

On the baseball diamond in 1982, Cossell batted .391 on a 23-5 squad that was ranked No. 1 in the state much of the season. He earned All-State and All-Conference nods and was a key player that summer on the 1982 Kokomo Post 6 American Legion baseball team that competed in the American Legion World Series.

At North Dakota State, Cossell played four years of basketball and baseball. He played 81 career games for a Bison basketball squad that was 75-39 in his tenure. He played all 28 games as a senior, averaging 4.7 points and hitting 49 percent of his 3-point attempts (50 of 102).

Cossell was a team captain and named All-North Central Conference for the baseball team in 1987, finishing his collegiate career with 10 individual and team records.
